How to Choose a Family Photographer
Curious on how to choose a Family Photographer? Here are a few ways to find the right photographer for you!

- The first thing to think about is a realistic budget for you and your family.. The average cost of a photographer for a family session is about $400 per hour. I know this number can seem daunting! There is a reason behind the cost! It covers the amount of shooting, editing, gear, systems, taxes, traveling, upkeep, etc. And those memories captured will stay with you forever. As a photographer, I try to stay as affordable as possible while also giving the best experience and making it worth my time and worth leaving my family. SO be realistic with your budget, but please remember you get what you pay for.
- Look at style with posing and editing! The style you see from a photographer’s website and social media will be exactly what you get. Don’t expect anything different!
- Try to find a photographer that values their clients and prioritizes client experience! Do they send a questionnaire? A Session Prep with tips? Do they help with choosing outfit colors or specific clothing items? Do they know the surrounding locations and give you options depending on your vision? (I do!!)
- Keep in mind is that some photographers specialize. If you love a certain photographer and have followed him/her for years, they might only shoot weddings. If they won’t take you as a family or newborn session, that’s ok! You can ask for recommendations of photographers with similar styles. Most photographers are in groups that they can ask, even if they don’t know!
- Look at level of experience! Experience = consistency. Photography is the study of light. Experienced photographers should be able to problem solve unexpected situations and give you an amazing experience.
