6 Tips for a Stress Free Photo Session

What are my top 6 tips for a stress free photo session you ask? You’ve come to the right place!
- Don’t come hungry!
- It may seem like a fun tradition (or good bribe) to go out to eat after your session, but think of this instead: fill your bellies, come happy, go grab a Slurpee after. This will especially help small children. Kids wear their feelings on their faces. Plus, I prefer to not use bribes during sessions, so it’s important to feed them before or have a snack on the way!
- Don’t come into the session with high expectations.
- Obviously we want great photos of everyone! But if you stress and come in expecting the worlds most perfect images with the world’s most perfectly behaved children, you are setting yourself up for failure! Your kids and spouse can sense that tension. Come willing to cuddle those sweet babies and go with the flow.
- Read through my Session Prep Guide!
- There is SO much good information that you normally wouldn’t think of. Please take the time to read it.
- If you plan to get a haircut, eyebrows waxed, or spray tan, go a week or more before your session!
- It happens so often that clients come to sessions with bad haircuts and color, etc. If you don’t feel good in your skin, you won’t love the images you get, and you will not print or use them. Leave time for fixes!
- Wear something you are comfortable and feel good in.
- If you do not feel like your outfit is flattering on you, don’t wear it. If you don’t feel comfortable, don’t wear it. It will show through in your photos how uncomfortable you are!
- Do Not wait till last minute to book your session.
- This tip has many reasons! First, it will just stress you out and give you no outfit planning time if you book last minute. Second, if you are wanting a certain location or, say, wild flowers, you are going to miss your chance for those by waiting. They will either be gone already, or your photographer may not have any availability left. Plan to book early!
