6 Facts About Infertility
6 random facts about infertility that you may not know. I’ve been around the sun a couple times with the I word.. Infertility. It’s becoming a much more well known subject. Nowadays, more women/couples are willing to come forward to share their stories and experiences. Women that fight infertility know quite a bit about the reproductive process. Like a lot. Honestly, because they have to! So here we go:
Facts You May or May not Know:
- The average time to conceive a child is seven months. That’s 7. 213 days. Most doctors won’t see a woman for infertility until she and her partner hit a year. Only 75% of women will get pregnant in the first six months of trying.
- About 10% of women in the U.S. have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). 10% of women worldwide suffer from Endometriosis (a painful disorder in which tissue, similar to the tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus, grows outside your uterus).
- A man’s sperm can live up to six days inside a woman’s body. You can do your homework for about a week prior to ovulation and still get pregnant!
- The average day for a woman to ovulate (the release of an egg from one of a woman’s ovaries) to occur is Cycle day 14 (Cycle Day 1 is the first day of a woman’s period).
- Tracking Basal Body Temp is not uncommon for women trying to conceive. A thermometer with two decimals is necessary for this! Before ovulation, a woman’s BBT averages between 97°F and 97.5°F. After ovulation, it rises to 97.6°F to 98.6°F. You can track your cycle by taking your BBT the same time every morning RIGHT when you wake up.
- About 10 to 15 in every 100 pregnancies (10-15%) end in miscarriage. Most miscarriages happen in the first trimester before the 12th week of pregnancy. Miscarriage in the second trimester (between 13 and 19 weeks) happens in 1 to 5 in 100 (1-5%) pregnancies.
